Kaylin + Matt: A Micro 2020 Wedding at The Cake Bake Shop

Kaylin and Matt’s experience with 2020 was similar to a lot of other brides and grooms this year- they had a big wedding planned and Covid shut it down. Making the difficult decision to postpone their wedding until 2021, Matt and Kaylin still wanted to get legally married on their original wedding date. They invited me along to shoot the ceremony and a small private reception with only immediate family. The only question was- where should this take place at?

The answer was delicious. I mean that literally because they ultimately decided to have their ceremony in the private event space at The Cake Bake Shop in Broad Ripple. When Kaylin suggested it to me I was SO excited. Not only do I LOVE their delicious deserts so I was bound to have some yummy cake, but as a photographer I was so pleased because the aesthetic of The Cake Bake Shop was GORGEOUS. It’s the closest thing to Disney World Indianapolis is getting and had SO MUCH PINK. I would definitely answer “Cake Bake” if someone asked me my ideal aesthetic. So we had lovely people, delicious cake, and a beautiful room- what more could you ask for?

The ceremony moved me to tears. Kaylin and Matt could have easily been bitter or upset that their wedding day was so wildly different than what they had wanted, but they were the total opposite. They were just so excited to get married! Kaylin is an only child so when her mom read at the ceremony, she burst into tears, which caused me to burst into tears. It was a lovely, simple and short wedding, and it really reminded me and everyone else what a wedding day is about- a wedding. Two people getting married and starting a family together. It was perfect.

I want to thank the two families for allowing me to be a part of an intimate family affair and for welcoming me to join them at the reception table as if i were a guest. That really means a lot to me! And I also have to give a huge shoutout to The Cake Bake Shop for their hospitality. The cake, and yes, the MACAROONS were delicious. If you live in Indianapolis and want the best cake ever, you need to check out The Cake Bake Shop.
